ช่วงนี้อยู่ในช่วงเพลงย้อนยุคกันหน่อย ไม่ใช่ว่าหมดเพลงแล้ว แต่ต้องมีกั๊กกันบ้างนิดหน่อยครับ แต่จริง ๆ แล้วที่ช่วงนี้อัพเดตน้อยก็เนื่องจากไม่ค่อยมีเวลาเท่าไหร่ ช่วงอาทิตย์ก่อนก็ทำโปสเตอร์สำหรับ Paradise Live ที่จะมาเล่นที่เมืองไทย จากนั้นก็เป็นไข้หวัด นี่ก็ยังไม่หายเลย ฝากเพื่อน ๆ อธิษฐานเผื่อด้วยนะครับ ยังไงจะพยายามฟื้นตัวทั้งร่างกายและจิตใจโดยเร็ว

เพลง That's What Love Is For ของ Amy Grant อยู่ในอัลบัม In Motion (1991) ก็แค่ 15 ปีที่แล้วเอง จริง ๆ แล้วช่วงนั้น ผมรู้จัก Amy Grant แล้วนะครับ พอดีมีเพื่อนข้างบ้านซื้อ Amy Grant มาฟัง ซึ่งผมเอง ตอนนั้นไม่ค่อยสนใจเท่าไหร่ เพราะชอบ Mariah Carey กับ Whitney Houston และก็ยังไม่ได้รู้จักพระเจ้าด้วย ไม่รู้หรอกเพลงคริสเตียนอะไรเนี่ย แถมอยู่ต่างจังหวัด (นครสวรรค์) หาเพลงสากลฟังยากมาก มากรุงเทพฯ ที ต้องเตรียมเงินมาซื้อเพลงสากลกลับไปฟังที่บ้าน เจอร้านเทปในกทม. เหมือนความฝันเป็นจริงเลยก็ว่าได้ ซึ่งปัจจุบันผมเองก็ยังต้อง ขวนขวายหาเพลงคริสเตียนดี ๆ มาฟังอย่างยากเย็น เพราะในเมืองไนไทยศิลปินที่ชอบ ๆ ก็ดันไม่ค่อยจะเอามาขาย

วกกลับมาที่ Amy Grant ดีกว่า อัลบัม Heart In Motion เป็นอัลบัมที่มีเพลงฮิตมากที่สุดตลอดกาลของ Amy Grant เลย (ไม่นับอัลบัมรวมฮิต) ทั้งเพลง Baby Baby, Every Heartbeat, That's What Love Is For และ I Will Remember You และอัลบัมนี้ยังเป็นอัลบัมเปิดตัวเธอสู่ตลาด Mainstream อีกด้วย ซึ่งก็ประสบความสำเร็จมากมายจริง ๆ แต่เราไม่สามารถเรียกอัลบัมนี้ได้ว่า Christian Music เพราะเพลงไม่ใช่เพลงที่เขียนขึ้นเพื่อคริสเตียน แต่ก็ต้องบอกว่าเป็นการทำงานโดยจากชีวิตของคริสเตียนคนหนึ่ง โดยที่เนื้อหาเพลงถึงจะไม่ได้เขียนเพื่อคริสเตียน แต่ทัศนคติ มุมมองชีวิต ก็เป็นอะไรที่คริสเตียนเราคุ้นเคยดี

คนที่ฟังเพลงนี้จะมีหลายอารมณ์ คือ โรแมนติก ให้กำลังใจ นึกถึงใครบางคน หรือนึกถึงพระเจ้า ขึ้นอยู่กับว่า คนฟังอยู่ในสถานะอะไร สำหรับผมเอง ฟังครั้งแรกรู้สึกว่า โรแมนติก แต่สักพัก รู้สึกถึงความรักที่ให้กำลังใจกัน จนในที่สุดก็นึกถึงพระเจ้า บ่อเกิดของความรักทั้งมวลในโลกนี้ครับ

เพลง Somewhere Down The Road ของ Amy Grant อยู่ในอัลบัม Behind the Eyes (1997) ซึ่งแต่งโดย Amy Grant และ Wayne Kirkpatrick จริง ๆ แล้วผมเคยฟังเพลงนี้ครั้งแรกจากอัลบัม Prince of Egypt (Nashville) ที่ร้องโดย Faith Hill ก็เพราะไปคนละแบบ แต่เพลงนี้มีความหมายดีมาก ๆ ในขณะที่ชีวิตของ Amy Grant ในช่วงนั้นดูจะไม่ค่อยราบรื่นนัก เพราะหลังจากออกอัลบัมนี้ไม่นาน เธอต้องจบชีวิตคู่ที่ยาวนานกว่า 19 ปี กับ Gary Chapman ซึ่งในตอนนั้นเป็นข่าวใหญ่ที่ช็อคแฟนเพลงของเธอเลยก็ว่าได้ (ผมว่าคริสเตียนจำนวนไม่น้อยทำใจไม่ได้ที่ศิลปินคริสเตียนมีการหย่าร้าง แต่อีกมุมหนึ่งที่เราไม่ควรละเลยก็คือ การให้โอกาส) ในปี 2000 Grant ได้แต่งงานกับ Vince Gill ศิลปิน Country ชื่อดัง

อัลบัมนี้มียอดขายในระดับ Gold ได้รับ GMA Awards ในสาขา Pop/Contemporary Album Of The Year ด้านความสำเร็จใน Billboard อัลบัมเคยได้อันดับ 8 ในชาร์ต The Billboard 200 และอันดับ 2 ในชาร์ต Top Contemporary Christian และเป็นอัลบัมอันดับที่ 44 ในหนังสือ CCM Presents: The 100 Greatest Albums in Christian Music ที่ออกเมื่อปี 2001

ผมว่าทุกอย่างที่เราเจออยู่ตอนนี้ มันยังไม่ใช่ตอนจบ ไม่ว่าจะเป็นปัญหา หรืออุปสรรคมากมาย แต่ท้ายที่สุดแล้วคนที่รู้คำตอบทั้งหมดก็คือพระเจ้า ที่ต้องอดทนรอคอยกันต่อไปครับ ว่าตอนจบจะเป็นอย่างไร ซึ่งเราคงต้องลุ้นกันอย่างใจจดใจจ่อ กันทุกลมหายใจ ยิ่งกว่าลุ้นบอลตอนนี้ซะอีก

พูดถึง Amy Grant นี่คงมีน้อยคนที่ไม่รู้จัก แต่อาจจะเป็นไปได้สำหรับคนรุ่นใหม่ ๆ ที่อาจจะไม่คุ้นหู เพราะช่วงหลังไม่ค่อยมีเพลงที่ดังในตลาด Mainstream เท่าไหร่ แต่ถ้าเป็นช่วงสัก 10 ที่แล้ว ถือว่าเป็น Pop Idol เลยก็ว่าได้ คือ ดังทั้งตลาดคริสเตียนและ Mainstream และน่าเป็นศิลปินคริสเตียนรุ่นแรกที่ก้าวไปบุกเบิกตลาดระดับนั้น นั่นรวมถึงการเป็นศิลปินที่มียอดขายระดับ Multiplatinum

เสียงเพลงถือว่าเป็นส่วนหนึ่งของชีวิต Amy Grant เลยทีเดียว คือ เริ่มตั้งแต่ร้อง acappella ในโบสถ์ และร้องเพลงในโรงเรียน ซึ่งความเป็นอัจฉริยะก็ได้ฉายแววตั้งแต่ตอนนั้นเป็นต้นมา ก่อนที่จะเริ่มสร้างตำนานบทใหม่อีก 25 ปี ต่อมา

Amy Grant เริ่มจากการทำงาน Part-time ถูพื้นและลบเทปใน Nashville studio และ Brown Bannister โปรดิวเซอร์ซึ่งเป็นเพื่อนของเธอ อนุญาตให้เธอ copy tape ที่มีเพลงที่เธออัดไว้เองและตั้งใจจะอัดให้ครอบครัว ซึ่งนั้นก็ทำให้โปรดิวเซอร์จาก Word Records เห็นแววในความเป็นอัจฉริยะ และจับ Amy Grant ที่เพิ่งอายุ 17 ปี เซ็นสัญญาทันที จากนั้นเริ่มอัลบัมแรกด้วยชุด Amy Grant (1978) และได้ออกอัลบัมเดี่ยวจนถึงทุกวันนี้ 20 อัลบัมแล้ว (รู้จัก Amy Grant มากขึ้นได้ที่ www.amygrant.com)

คงต้องพูดถึงชุด Age To Age (1982) ที่มีเพลง El Shaddai บรรจุอยู่ อัลบัมนี้ทำให้เธอได้รับ Dove Awards เป็นครั้งแรก รวมถึงรางวัล Contemporary Album of The Year และ Artist of The Year บวกกับรางวัล Grammy ในสาขา Best Gospel Performance นอกจากนี้ยังทำให้เพลง El Shaddai และ Sing Your Praise to The Lord (แต่งโดย Richard Mullins) กลายเป็นเพลงในโบสถ์ยุคใหม่ในตอนนั้น

เป็นเพลงสรรเสริญพระเจ้าที่มีความหมายดี ๆ อีกเพลงหนึ่งที่ทำให้เราซาบซึ้งในภาษาฮีบรู สิ่งที่เจ้าทำตั้งแต่กับอับราฮัม โมเสส และสิ่งที่พระคริสต์ได้ไถ่เราให้เป็นอิสระจนถึงทุกวันนี้ El-Shaddai, El-Shaddai!!!
